The Ocean Protection Council and Ocean Science Trust are pleased to announce the release of a new product: Frequently Asked Questions: Harmful Algal Blooms and California Fisheries. The document is designed to serve as a resource to build common understanding across all engaged in this issue, and provide clarity on the State’s current practices to harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring and management, and seafood toxin sampling and testing protocols.

CDPH Further Extends Recreational Shellfish Advisory

The current health advisory has been extended to include Humboldt and Del Norte counties.  The California Department of Health advises consumers not to eat recreationally harvested bivalve shellfish (mussels and clams) from Humboldt or Del Norte counties. Only the white meat (adductor muscle) of scallops should be consumed and the viscera (internal organs) should be discarded.
